The final week! Heads down for the finish line…

Hello Dear Artlandishers,

While three months seemed to be a long time, we have whistled through the project and are amazed to be nearing the end of this run…but we still have a few cards up our sleeve and we are hoping that you might want to be involved.

Here’s a quick look at what’s left…

Here Without Home Exhibition open 11-5pm on Thursday, Friday & Saturday

Artlandish & Unorthodox Paradox Live radio Broadcast from number 4

Closing Ceremony Saturday 28th  learn th songs from 3-5pm Procession leaves at 6pm(ish)

Unfortunately, the community choir scheduled for this Friday will not be taking place.

Here Without Home Private View

We had a fantastic PV for the last exhibition, it stretched on longer than any other, lots of folks enjoying and contemplating the works, so thanks to all who came. We are very pleased to exhibit the fantastic Community Sleeping Bag, expressing compassionate messages to the homeless, this venture was spearheaded by the amazing Theresa Clarke, and we collected over 100 squares of embroidery and collated them together to create something quite magical, we are so proud to have completed this miracle, so check it out.

There is still time to catch the exhibition, the gallery will be open from 11-5 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Artlandish and Unorthodox Paradox Live Broadcast from number 4

For one night only, Unorthodox Paradox Radio will be taking over the Project Space at Artlandish for an evening of wildly eclectic music, presented by your hosts Sir Real & Grindi. The evening will be simultaneously broadcast live on the internet, so if you can’t make it in person you can tune in online to be part of the ‘happening’. Entry to this event is completely FREE, and there will be board games, creative fun, stupid chatter, maybe some silly dancing, and live performances from special guests Martha & Hazel. Never to be repeated (unless it is), this will be an event like Sex Pistols at the Free Trade Hall, or Velvet Underground at The Exploding Plastic Inevitable – if you aren’t there, you’ll beforever pretending that you were 😉

7pm – 11pm in the Project Space @ 4, Gomond Street, Hereford

Alula Down and Carausius Arise

Over the run we have been very lucky to have had Weirdshire linking with us to create some beautiful music events, and on March 17th we had a fantastic night where we were treated to a 30-minute set including vintage recording on a reel-to-reel from Alula Down, the gentle vocals and beautiful instrumentation was a joy for the ears, and when Carausius Arise played that joy was continued, with excellent modular skills and spine tingling vocals the room was enthralled.

This collaboration has been a wonderful thing that we hope to build on if we secure more funding for Artlandish, so watch this space.

Poetry Night with Bertram Holt (that Geeza Bird)

The last poetry night was a roaring success with lots of new faces in the group, there were many verses spun and fun times had by all who attended and many cries of ‘why didn’t we come before?’ We would like to send a huge thank you to the amazing ‘Geeza Bird’ for coming up and facilitating this brilliant workshop group fortnightly for the last three months all the way from Bristol, and bringing light, warmth and bags of enthusiasm to this fantastic event.

Closing Ceremony – 28th March

Please do come along and enjoy our final event in this run at Artlandish.

For the last month we have been hosting a community choir in the Project Space, the numbers have been growing and some songs have been learnt for our final ceremony. We wanted to do something beautiful for the last event, so we have linked with Hereford Cathedral and are planning a lantern walk from number 4 at 6pm on Saturday the 28th.

If you want to come and learn the songs to sing you will be very welcome to come to the project space at 3-5pm

If you just wish to come and view please come down to the project space for 6pm,

We have been working on a big surprise for weeks now and it will ensure that the final ceremony will be something to remember.

THIS IS NOT TO BE MISSED.

ARTLANDISH WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXHIBITED, CREATED WORKSHOPS, SUPERVISED EVENTS, CREATED NICE SPACES, OR HAVE COME TO OUR EVENTS.

Without you we are nothing

Final Artlandish Newsletter

Artlandishing Weekender

We are pleased to report that the Artlandishing Weekend arts event went really well, we had multiple ways for the participants to take part including the amazing TetraPak workshop upstairs with a constant stream of folks interacting and creating beautiful prints to take home with them, thanks to the incredible warm energy of Lucy Davies. We also really enjoyed the improvised poetry workshop in which Marcus Pibworth invited audience members to shout out random sentences to create on-the-spot poetry, typed out on a vintage typewriter. We also need to shout out the amazing zine workshop which create so many brilliant zines, and kept fingers busy on both days, the obvious joy was created by Aoife Higgins and Omar Majeed who are compiling all the zines into one big zine so watch out for that coming out soon. Also a huge shout out to Suzanne Reynolds who donated and facilitated a giant draw which enticed young and old alike to put their own mark on the piece, and a dramatic and fun work emerged.

We also had story telling in which Marcus transported us to another realm, and we all became children again.

Then there were the performers; Poets, musicians and comedy it was an incredible line up that kept us all enthralled. So many folks from so many places descended on us for the event and they all brought their unique energy, So in order of appearance I would like to shout out a huge Artlandish thanks to Moon Gazing Hare (Sweden), Omar Majeed (Hereford), Trappist Afterland (Australia), Emilli Milli (Kent), Bertram that Geeza Bird (Bristol), Hazel (Herefordshire), The Breaks Acoustic (Herefordshire), Thick Richard (Manchester), Retinal Circus (Birmingham), Egret (Shropshire), Owl Oscillation(Morecambe), Matt ‘Monkey Poet’ (Morecambe).

EVERYONE MENTONED ABOVE FACILITATED OR PLAYED COMPLETELY FREE !

What an incredible weekend 🙂

Here Without Home

We can’t believe how quickly the time has flown during this run, but there is still plenty more coming up, our final Artlandish exhibition has been shuffled down a week as we needed to make sure that we got the right amount of exhibits to make it work and create an exhibition worth of our reputation, we are confident now that it will be an incredible last hoorah for the exhibition series and we hope to many of your smiling faces at the Private View on Friday 20th March at 7.00pm

Poetry night

We also have one last chance for you to get involved with our lovely poetry workshop, the last session is on 18th of March in the project space from 7-9pm, there’s lots of tea and chatter and a solid structure to help you get your creative juices flowing, so please do come along and enjoy the vibe.

We Are Here Community Choir

Last friday we held the first in a series of four community sing-alongs, hosted by the incredible Mark Waters and Kate Gathercole. We learnt some songs that we are going to use for our final ceremony and also some feel good pieces that really lifted our spirits and were just great fun. It’s easy to be intimated in joining a singing group but the care and support created by our hosts really made it a wonderful session, so please do come without fear if you think that you’d like to be involved, we promise you that you won’t regret it. The session runs on a Friday from 11.30 to 1pm  in the Project Space at 4, Gomond Street.

Final ceremony

We do have to finish off this run with a flourish and we are planning something beautiful and poignant to round everything off in a suitable way.  Our choir leaders have been linking with other choirs and learning songs that represent our theme and we will all be joining together for a big procession and sing-along on our very last night on the 28th of March. We do also have a wonderful surprise to delight the senses, which we are keeping secret for now, but all will be revealed a little nearer to the event. We will all be meeting up in the project space at 6pm and processing up to sing outside the cathedral at around 6.30pm so please save the date and celebrate this wonderful project with the send off it deserves.

Turning Point Exhibition

We are very proud to announce that we have teamed up with Turning Point in Hereford which has many service users with lived experience of difficult times. They have been working through these issues and have participated in a number of art recovery workshops which have enabled them to express their journey and get the wonderful healing benefits that art creates. We are going to be exhibiting their work in our Project Space on Friday 20th March. That means you will be able to view the work from the ‘Here Without Home’ exhibition and the Turning Point exhibition on the same night, so definitely a night not to be missed.

Music @ Artlandish

On Tuesday 17th March in the Project Space at 4, Gomond Street we have the final gig in the series of collaborations with Weirdshire, this time there will be performances from the amazing Carausias Arise! and local heroes Alula Down, with DJ support from Jus’ Jay, and Nick Mash providing eye-popping visuals. It’s £10 on the door, and as with the other gigs will be a night not to be missed! Kick off is at 7:30pm

Compassionate message to the Homeless sleeping bag

We are very excited about this project, overseen by the magnificent Theresa Clarke, she has coordinated with a number of stitch groups and individual embroiders across the county and beyond and we’ve had a wonderful response of over 90 embroidered squares. There have been a few nights of stitching things together and we are thrilled to be presenting the work as the star of our Here Without Home exhibition, this has been a huge mission and we are still not sure about how we are going to display is as it is SO HUGE, please come along and marvel at all the beautiful squares, and enjoy the community spirit that created this work of Art.

As you can see, we intend on going out with a bang, so a million thanks to everyone who has participated in any way so far, and let’s make the next two weeks as jam-packed with fun and creativity as we possibly can – we can’t do any of this without you 🙂

Folk workshop – This Wednesday, in our usual 2 – 6pm slot, we will be upping the ante and beginning to create some larger scale structures using willow, paper and fabric – we are working towards the closing ceremony which is coming around fast. We are not ready to tell all yet (unless you come to our workshop) but save the date of the 28th of March around sunset as we are planning something pretty special.

Poetry night – From 7 – 9pm on Wednesday night we have another poetry workshop with the wonderful Bertram Holt. If you’ve not been before don’t be put off, newcomers are welcome and everyone’s creativity changes the group in subtle ways which really moves the dynamic forward. As always, there will be tea, biscuits and chatter along with some poetry.

Flee exhibition last week – There is another opportunity this week to catch the Flee exhibition, which is open on Thursday, Friday and closing on Saturday at 5pm. We are very proud of the work in this exhibition which has been created by artists and folk with lived experience, providing a thoughtful insight into migration, and domestic abuse.

Artlandishing Weekender – We are super excited to present our mega Arts event on the 7th and 8th of March, in which we will be presenting music, workshops and poetry. There is something for all, and as usual it is ALL FREE.

We are very honoured to have so many acts performing for free to raise the profile of our little art community, so do come along and enjoy the fun – please see the attached program of events for full details.

We are pleased to once again be working with Weirdshire to create this program, there will be early afternoon bands starting from midday, then workshops including a giant draw, TetraPak printing and a zine workshop during the afternoon, and then from 5.30 we will have some great music and poetry acts. Please do come along for part of the day or all of the day, as usual you will be very welcome.

Hope to see you at one (or more) of these, your support as always is hugely appreciated, and every single one of you can help us to build this into something really special 🙂
